We have grown steadily since founding in 2019, and are now looking to recruit a Space Economist to support our continued growth and excellence in economic consultancy.

Salary

  • Economist: £36,000 - £42,000 (depending on qualifications and experience) + profit-sharing scheme, and benefits

  • Junior Economist: £33,000 - £36,000 + profit-sharing scheme, and benefits

About the role

With our mission to be the authoritative source of economic knowledge for the space sector, having the right in-house expertise is critical to our work. Our advice is built on excellence in primary and secondary research, statistical analysis, and economic modelling.

Typically, you will be working to support the delivery of analytical projects such as market studies, business cases, evaluations, and horizon scanning studies, engaging in both quantitative and qualitative work, including economic modelling and econometric analysis. Work topics are wide ranging, with recent projects including examinations of emerging in-space markets, evaluations of the impact of flagship UK space programmes, industry surveys, and socio-economic impact assessments e.g. of space weather events.

As the space sector is continuously evolving, we also often need to develop novel and innovative methodological solutions for our clients, which requires creative thinking as well as having a strong grasp of economic fundamentals.

This is an economist role within a consultancy environment. While economics will be a core part of the position, the role also involves broader consulting tasks such as research, stakeholder engagement, project delivery and report writing.

We are recruiting at two levels:

  • Economist - Designed for candidates with relevant professional experience working as an economist.

  • Junior Economist - Designed for candidates early on in their career, without expectation of previous professional experience. Applicants must hold at least an undergraduate degree in Economics with a minimum classification of 2:1 or equivalent.

.candidate

You need to have have (essential):

  • An undergraduate (2:1 minimum) or postgraduate degree in Economics or a closely related discipline with substantial economics content;

  • Strong knowledge of microeconomics, macroeconomics and applied economic analysis;

  • Proficiency with Excel, Word and PowerPoint, and experience using statistical/econometric software;

  • Excellent quantitative skills (e.g. data management, econometric analysis / modelling) and the ability to interpret complex datasets;

  • Good qualitative skills, including the ability to synthesise and gain insight from ‘softer’ analytical data and evidence;

  • Good people skills, and ability to contribute to (and occasionally lead) interviews as part of primary research;

  • A creative, solution-orientated ability to work with imperfect and incomplete evidence;

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical findings clearly to non-specialist audiences;

  • A genuine interest in space, satellite technology and applications, and the space industry/economy.

You may also have (desirable):

  • Experience of working as a professional economist in industry or government (not expected for Junior Economist);

  • Familiarity with principles in the HM Treasury ‘Green Book’ and ‘Magenta Book’;

  • Experience of working within the space industry;

  • Demonstrated interest in wider science and innovation matters;

  • Proficiency with programming languages, such as R and Python;

  • Fluency in European or other languages.
